Mongolia
is a priority country for Czech development cooperation. Caritas CR has been working in Mongolia since 2006, when it launched its first development project in the country. Since 2008 it has had an office in Ulan Bator (its mission). It has dedicated its work particularly to education, social work, restoring livelihoods, humanitarian assistance, prevention of risks of natural disasters and migration.
Today, Caritas CR has established a mobile medical unit serving the remote rural areas of western Mongolia: supports several secondary vocational schools in the process of reforming their curricula and pre-school education in remote areas. It also works on mapping the distribution of water in the north Mongolian town of Mörön.

Mobile emergency/doctor rooms in Mongolian country side take a hit
Caritas Czech Republic has set up mobile emergency rooms in rural areas of the west Mongolian Zavkhan province and provided training for local medical staff. Czech Development Agency co-financed all activities.

In the winter of 2009/2010, Mongolia was affected by a peculiar natural disaster called dzud. As a result of vast livestock losses, many pastoral families found themselves in the state of having a pressing food shortage.

The project is in reaction to a specific natural disaster called dzud, which in the first half of 2010 left many pastoral families without livelihoods. The purpose of the project was not only to provide immediate humanitarian relief, which would solve the pressing food shortage; but also to focus on long-term needs of inhabitants and its aim was therefore to restore the livelihoods of affected families in the Bayan – Ondor sum (district) of the most seriously affected Ovorhangai Province.
