Caritas CR is active mainly in Southeast Asia, namely in Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia. It also helps in Mongolia, Pakistan and Japan.
In some Asian countries, other Czech Caritas carry out their projects:
- in Mongolia: Archdiocesan Caritas Olomouc and Diocesan Caritas Litoměřice
- in India: Archdiocesan Caritas Praha a Diocesan Caritas Hradec Králové
- in Thailand: Archdiocesan Caritas Praha.
Battambang battered by bad weather
Two people died and around 30 houses were destroyed after rainstorms hit Cambodia’s Battambang province on 4 May. An estimated 116 families in seven villages were affected by rainstorm in Preytralach. Among all the destroyed houses, 20 were fully destroyed while 18 were 70 percent destroyed. Sports are back again in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 school
In the capital of the western-most Indonesian province of Aceh, Banda Aceh on Sumatra island, it is heavily raining. This does not prevent students of the Islamic secondary school Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 to play a friendly volleyball match. Teachers cheer them on from the sidelines. According to the headmaster of the school, sporting events are an important part of school activities because they encourage a positive school spirit.
Mobile emergency/doctor rooms in Mongolian country side take a hit
Caritas Czech Republic has set up mobile emergency rooms in rural areas of the west Mongolian Zavkhan province and provided training for local medical staff. Czech Development Agency co-financed all activities.
Disabled children do not need just medical support
Cambodian teacher Em Kan lives in the Trapeang Raing village in the Takeo province. He has five children and for additional household income he and his wife grow rice and breed animals. In 2011, he fell from the top of a palm tree and broke his hip. Because of his injury, he has understood more than anyone else the need for a project to support children with disabilities.
Assistance for Japan has not stopped
Caritas Japan continues to help people who live in four Japanese areas affected by the devastating tsunami in March 2011. By the end of September, it has used also about 60 million CZK, sent from various caritas organizations, including 5 million CZK provided by Caritas Czech Republic.
